• Article 1. Name and Affiliation

Section 1.The organization shall be known as Nazarene Educators Worldwide (NEW).

Section 2. NEW shall function under the ministry of Nazarene Discipleship International (NDI)*.

  • Article II. Purpose

The purpose of Nazarene Educators Worldwide shall be twofold: (1) to provide a network of fellowship and professional enrichment to educators associated with the Church of the Nazarene globally; (2) to promote the mission of NDI and the Church of the Nazarene to make Christlike disciples in the nations.

  • Article III. Membership

Section 1. Membership in NEW shall be open to educators worldwide associated with the Church of the Nazarene and others interested in supporting the purposes of this organization.

Section 2. Annual dues shall be established by the NEW Advisory Council.

  • Article IV. Organization

Section 1. An Advisory Council shall consist of four (4) elected members—Chairperson, Vice Chairperson, Secretary, and Communications Coordinator,eight to fourteen (8 – 14)appointed members, and the NDI designated liaison. The Advisory Council members shall have full voting rights.

Section 2. The Advisory Council shall appointone or two  coordinators with voting rights for the following eight areas: Christian schools, public schools, early education (child care/preschools), homeschools, higher education, global (non-USA) education, membership, and information technology.

Section 3. The four elected members (Chairperson, Vice Chairperson, Secretary, and Communications Coordinator) and NDI Liaison shall serve as the Executive Committee. They shall be empowered to conduct business between meetings of the Advisory Council.

Section 4. The Advisory Council shall appoint others without voting rights, as needed, to assist in fulfilling the purposes of NEW.

 

  • Article V. Elections and Terms of Office

Section 1. Elections shall be conducted every four years by mail or electronic means no later than May 31.

Section 2. The Executive Committee shall appoint a Nominations Committee of three to five members no later than January 31 of the year in which elections are held, who shall prepare a ballot no later than March 31 of the election year. The NDI shall approve the ballot.

Section 3. Elected Advisory Council members shall hold office until the next election and the new Advisory Council is installed. Appointed Advisory Council members shall serve for a term of four years.

Section 4. All Advisory Council members, elected and appointed, may serve more than one term.

Section 5. All vacancies on the Advisory Council shall be filled by appointment by a two-thirds vote of the Advisory Council.

Section 6. All Advisory Council members shall serve as unpaid volunteers.

  • Article VI. Meetings

Section 1. The Advisory Council shall conduct regular meetings at times determined by a majority of the council members.

Section 2. Members meetings may be called during Church of the Nazarene gatherings, such as General Assembly and regional/district assemblies/events, etc.

Section 3. All meetings, including voting, may be conducted in person or electronically.

 

  • Article VII. Policies and Procedures

Additional Policies and Procedures may be developed by the Advisory Council to help govern and guide the ministry and work of NEW.

 

  • Article VIII. Parliamentary Authority

The rules contained in the latest edition of Robert’s Rule of Order Newly Revised shall govern the organization for all cases to which they are applicable.

  • Article IX. Amendments

These Bylaws may be amended or repealed by a two-thirds majority vote of the Advisory Council and by the approval of the NDI.

*If the Church of the Nazarene Leadership, at any time, changes the name of Nazarene Discipleship International at any time, appropriate edits to this Bylaws document will be made without the vote of our NEW membership, to continue our consistent relationship with our denomination.
